Your vs You're - Grammar Tip
Hello fellow writers,
I hope you guys are doing alright. This is the Weekly Grammar Tip to help you improve your writing.
YOUR vs YOU'RE
- Your is the second person possessive adjective, used to describe something as belonging to you.
Your is always followed by a noun.
Examples:
I came to give back your book. Will you lend me your pen? I loved reading your story.
Your poem made me cry. I don't need your advice.
You're comment is rude. = INCORRECT (Your comment is rude.)
- You're is the contraction of "you are" and is often followed by the present participle (verb+ing form).
Examples:
You're (you+are) a wonderful person. You're a great storyteller. You're magnificent.
You're doing this on purpose. You're overreacting. You're lying to yourself. You're being silly right now.
Your always editing. = INCORRECT (You're always editing.)
It's just a small change, but it will improve the quality of your prose a lot.
Hope you find it useful. I will post another tip very soon.
Take care.
