The twist is so surprising, I did not expect it will end this way. Happy that Bogner saved one child and may those family of the masons live happily ever after.

And by the way, I love the thought that Ivogil and her mom's beauty go deeper when strong emotions grip them.

Congratulations for the beautiful story!

Loved this modern and original twist on a classic fairytale theme. Full of surprising twists and turns. It's writen with a beautiful, almost poetic writing style with incredible symbolism that paints truly vivid and detailed images in your mind.

I think this is a haunting tale with a deeper meaning that demonstrates a lot about human nature and highlights the devastating consequences of bad actions to both victims and perpetrators.

Really is a great little story - I'd highly recommend giving it a read if you haven't done already.

It's a story that I know also in a Romania version (The ballad of Master builder Manole - Balada Mesterului Manole), only the one that I know it's not a fairytale, but a poem. In the version that I know (and maybe you do too), this master builder and his 9 men are hired by Prince Radu the Black (the founder of Valachia) to build a monastery. What Manole was building during the day, by night was falling to the ground. Desperate to finish it, one night Manole had a dream in which he was told that, for the monastery to be built, he had to incorporate into its walls some person very loved by him or his masons. They agreed that the first wife who would come there with lunch for her husband the following day should be the one to be built into the walls of the monastery so that their art would last. The next day, Manole looked over the hills and sadly saw his wife, Ana (who was pregnant), coming from afar. She will be murdered for "the greater good", and the Prince will ask Manole to build another monastery bigger than this. Knowing what he had sacrificed for his art, Manole refuses and he and his masons will take their own life. The monastery exists - Curtea de Arges Monastery.

Yes, I know this poem. We were thought this too in Romanian Language class. Also a sad tale. I'll do my best to create a cheerful short story using only a few of these elements.
