“Lady Therese, the chairman wants to see you in his office,” her butler told her. After the incident yesterday, Reese skipped her next class and went home. She texted Celine and Tim not to worry about her saying that all she needed was rest.
She lazily stood up as her maid servants prepared the clothes she would wear before meeting her father. Her father rarely sought her presence though they lived in the same house thus she was expecting to talk about business. The worst case scenario would be him finding out her friendship with Tim.
“Chairman, Lady Therese is here.”
The door opened for her and she was welcomed by the well-lit office of her father. She looked around and saw her father seated in the couch found in the middle of the room.
Theodore Verde, her father, is one of the most influential business tycoons in the country. His global competence made some businessmen from all over the world set his eyes on him. At a young age, he already had shown the business world his promising skills which put Vera Holdings Inc. to belong in the top class conglomerates.
Having him as a father wasn’t an easy feat. Everyone was expecting her to be as great as him but he himself wanted her to surpass him. In her entire lifetime, the name Vera which was originally her grandmother’s name and the surname Verde was a heavy responsibility to carry. She needed to be mindful of everything she does because she was the Verde’s heiress. She had to be flawless in order to protect her family’s pride.
“Chairman, you called for me?”
She couldn’t remember when she stopped calling him Dad. After her mother’s death, her relationship with him drifted away and before she knew it, she started being independent.
“You’ll attend a meeting with me later so prepare yourself.”
She felt the coldness in her father’s voice as if he was talking with his business partners. Seeing him up close, she somehow longed for her father’s warmth.
“Meeting with whom?” She silently wished that the meeting wasn’t for future engagement or anything of that sort.
“You’ll know when we get there. You can take your leave.”
She nodded her head and gracefully walked out of the office. Her feet felt heavy right after the door of the office closed. She didn’t want to be under her father’s guidance yet.
She flinched when her phone suddenly rang when she was in front of her room and was relieved to see that it was just Celine who was calling her. She opened the door and locked herself in.
“Before we start talking, let me tell you that you’re on speaker so Timothy and Luke could also hear you,” Celine said as soon as she answered the call.
She wanted to confirm if the one named Luke was their classmate whom she approached yesterday but the way Celine sounded made it already obvious.
“Why are you calling?” she asked in a bored tone.
“I wouldn’t waste my time calling you if you were here, young lady.” Celine’s sarcastic remark earned a subtle laugh from her.
“Are you sick?” She heard Tim’s voice from the other side.
“Don’t worry, I’m fine. I was just mandated to attend a dinner meeting so I’m skipping school,” she explained.
“We’re having an interview with my brother. Can you come?”
She bit her lip. She’s not sure if she will be available but she wants to come. “When and where?”
“Roses and Thymes at 6 PM,” Tim was the one who answered.
“I’m not sure about my schedule yet but I’ll try to fit it in. I just hope I could be on time.”
She bit her lip when she heard Luke’s comment. It truly sounded like an excuse so she didn’t want to argue with him.
“I’ll see you later then!” Celine’s cheerful voice was the last thing she heard before the call was ended. She didn’t expect that her schedule for the day would be occupied.
Her butler knocked so she opened the door for him. Together with the other servants, they put her clothes on the bed and told her to get ready for the meeting.”
“Henry,” she called her butler out.
“Yes, my lady?”
“I have a school activity in Roses and Thymes at 6 PM. Can you add it on my schedule for today?”
“Yes, my lady. Your meeting will approximately end at 4:30 PM. I’ll instruct your driver to bring you at Roses and Thymes before 6,” he said while taking notes. “Is there anything you want me to add, my lady?”
She shook her head. “That would be all, thank you.”
She proceeded in preparing for the meeting. After the preparation, her butler told her that the chairman was waiting so she immediately went down so that they could leave.
Being in the same car with him felt suffocating. She tried to focus on her phone by scrolling down her newsfeed as to disregard the icy silence prevailing in their vehicle.
“How was school?” her father suddenly asked.
She put down her phone and placed her hands on the top of her lap. “It’s fine. I’m doing well.”
