Chapter Twenty One: You've been a real Pal

Melissa clicked play. Andrew sounded nervous. "So, uh, I think the reason I was so mad at you is that I like you, and felt betrayed...But, uh, I'm sorry...No, that won't work. ANDREW WHAT THE HECK! How about, I apologize for my behavior, but the reason I looked so hurt is that I've had a crush on you for as long as I've known you-AH WAIT DON'T SEND-" Beep. Melissa's eyes widened in surprise.

Well, that wasn't what she was expecting.

Andrew likes me? She thought, absolutely dumbfounded. That's....kinda awkward, not gonna lie. Especially since for his last birthday I got him a #1 Best Brother mug as a joke..... She cringed. Yeah, that's pretty bad. Melissa turned onto her side and put her phone on her end table. Might as well sleep on this...

Bzzzzzz. Bzzzzzzzz. Bzzzzzzzzzzz. Melissa's eyes popped open and she grabbed her phone. "Who in the world-" Melisssa looked at her phone. It was Hunter. "Hey." He greeted. "Oh, Hi." She mumbled. Her pain had subsided but was still faintly there. "Schools out. How are you feeling?" He asked. Melissa yawned. "A little better. I was in the middle of a nap." She replied. "OH! I'm sorry! It never occurred to me that you'd be sleeping. Do you want me to hang up?" He asked. "No no, you're fine." She said laying on her back. "I actually want to ask you something." She said, glancing at her Bible next to her. "What is it?" He asked. She shook her head. "Um, you know my friend Andrew?" She started. Should I even tell him this? She thought. "I believe I know of him. I don't think I've actually met him officially though." Hunter replied. "Well, I got a couple of voicemails from him..." She trailed off. "Okay?...." He urged her to go on. "The first one I listened to, was him apologizing to me and stuff, but then he told me not to open the other voice mail, and just delete it," Melissa said as she pushed the covers off her legs. "Did you?" He asked. "No. I...was too curious, and now I don't know what to do." Melissa sighed. "What did it say?" He questioned. "It was basically an accidental love confession. He didn't mean to actually send it to me. It sounded like he was practicing telling me or something." Melissa said. "I see....Does he know?" Hunter asked. "No. Now I don't know what to do." Melissa said. "Well, I'd just talk it out with him if it's that worrying. Or you can wait and see if he'll tell you himself." Hunter said. "Hey, where are you? It sounds super busy." Melissa said. There were traffic noises and lots of bustle in the audio. "Ah, I'm....a few towns over actually. I needed to grab something for a friend..." He replied. "Oh, ok. Anyway, I think I'll see if he says anything. If not, then I'll confront him about it." Melissa stated. "Sounds good," Hunter said distractedly. "Sorry, I gotta go. Talk to you at school. Hope you feel better." He said. "Oh, right. Bye." She said and hung up. Melissa stood up and made her way over to her mirror. Her hair was tangled, and her face was greasy. Guess I'll take a shower... She thought, heading to the bathroom.

Samantha stared at her contacts list. Melissa's was pulled up. She sighed. It didn't take her long to put the pieces together on who the fire super was. Blaze was his name. It was so obvious. The height, the hair color, and the manner of speech. Hunter was definitely the fire super. Samantha's been watching from a distance that they've been getting closer. Andrew freaked out today because he accidentally sent a confession to Melissa. Samantha put her phone down and looked at herself in the mirror. Why didn't Andrew like her instead? They both obsessed over the same things, debated over comics, had pun wars, babysat his cousins, and even went skating together. Yet he likes Melissa....who didn't quite understand comics, only came over to his house when they tried on clothes, and even gave him a #1 brother mug! Samantha took a handful of her long blonde curls. Was it her hair? Was it too messy? Melissa had long dark curls, why didn't he like her hair? She grabbed the scissors off of her writing desk and did a swift cut....And another, and another. She snipped and snipped until she felt better. By the time she was done, her hair was just level with her chin. She looked down at the fallen stands and scooped them into the trashcan. "Nice look." A distorted voice said. She jumped and looked over at Celedon, who suddenly appeared in her room. "What are you doing here?!" She asked taking a few steps back. "Nothing, nothing...I've just...noticed something...." he said, tapping his chin. Melissa then noticed another guy behind him. She grabbed the scissors of her table. "Who is that?!" She asked pointing the scissors at him. "Him? He's just a friend. Harmless." Celedon replied. The guy had a dark grey suit on and unnaturally white hair. "He lets me know what others are thinking, and I think you can help us..." Celedon smirked. The guy behind him smiled and crossed his arms, eyes flashing orange. "Thought?! Like a mind reader?" Samantha asked. "Sure, you could say that...." Celedon said. Suddenly he was in front of her, holding her scissors. Samantha blinked at her now empty hand. "Stay back!" She said, stumbling backward. "Relax, We're not here to hurt you. I need a favor." He said twirling the scissors around. "What?" Samantha asked. "Since you know our little friend Blaze, we need you to tell us everything he does. A daily report if you will." He said walking over to her writing desk. "What? Daily report?" She raised an eyebrow. "Why would I do that?" Samantha asked. Celedon then stabbed the scissors, point down, into the picture of Andrew on her desk. Right between his eyes. "Because it's come to my attention that there's someone you'd do anything to keep safe." Celedon looked back at her, eyes suddenly cold and no longer playful. Samantha paled, and her mouth went dry. "No..." She said. "Yes. Here's the phone. Text the reports to the number on the contacts list. Who he hangs out with, where he goes, that sort of stuff." He said handing her a flip phone. She grabbed it with shaking hands. "How am I supposed to keep track of him as Blaze?" She asked. "Oh, don't worry about that. I have others for that." Celedon said putting an arm around her shoulders. "You've been a real pal. Thanks for the help." He said, then a blue blur, and both men were out of her room. Samantha fell to her knees and stared at the phone in her hands....
