This story begins with a stone brought from a nearby quarry. People believed the stone was cursed because it had a strange symbol on it. The symbol was thought to belong to an ancient civilization, but its meaning was unknown. When stone workers saw the symbol, they were scared, but the head craftsman ordered the stone to be used. Some people said the symbol was made by an old civilization to protect the area from evil spirits. However, when the stone was used in another building, it was believed to bring bad luck instead of protection.
Events That Started the Curse:
• One of the workers died when the stone fell while being placed.
• Some soldiers at the castle got sick or had strange dreams while guarding the area near the stone.
• People believed the stone woke up spirits that cursed the castle.
Throwing the Stone into the Sea:
The commanders of the castle and local religious leaders decided to remove the stone to stop the curse. But moving the stone was difficult, and many people had accidents while trying. Finally, a group of soldiers and religious men carried the stone to the Marmara Sea and threw it into the deep water with prayers.
When the stone was thrown into the sea, a sudden storm appeared in the sky. People thought this was a sign that the curse had gone into the sea. However, some local stories say the curse did not disappear completely but changed the energy of the area.
Stories Today:
Even today, the story of the stone is told by the elders in Büyükçekmece. They say the place where the stone was thrown is unlucky. Fishermen often have their nets torn or strange accidents happen to their boats there. Some divers have searched for a stone with a symbol at the bottom of the sea near the castle but found nothing.
This legend adds a mystical meaning to the castle and shows how such stories reflect people's belief in supernatural powers and their importance in cultural memory.
