CHAPTER 190: Blood War-6
Berlin — Spectral-Corp Headquarters
In the very heart of Berlin, a building of black glass and steel stood like a fortress of modernity. Spectral-Corp's headquarters gleamed under the night sky, imposing, cold, and silent from the outside, but bursting with activity within. Laboratories, strategic offices, and above all, the training rooms where the cleanup teams prepared for one of the most dangerous tasks in the world: maintaining the illusion of normality on a planet plagued by supernatural creatures.
Under the direction of the enigmatic Mr. Simon Verkut, Spectral-Corp operated from the shadows to erase the traces of clashes between vampires and lycans. When blood stained the streets or a building was reduced to ashes, the cleanup teams were the first to arrive. They eliminated evidence, neutralized threats, and turned the impossible into silence.
In a spacious meeting room, the walls were covered with maps, tactical screens, and real-time images of recent disasters. Simon Verkut, a middle-aged man with a severe face and authoritative presence, stood at the front. Before him, a group of soldiers in black tactical uniforms listened attentively.
"Listen carefully," Verkut growled, slamming his fist on the table. "Until now, our job has been to clean up the disasters left behind by these damned monsters. They call us when there's blood, when there are bodies that need to disappear, or buildings that need to be reduced to ashes. And we have performed with excellence… but this time is different."
A heavy silence spread through the room. The soldiers exchanged tense glances.
"The German government has assigned us something bigger. This isn't just a cleanup. It's a hunting operation. The target is Marius."
The name fell upon them like a lead weight. Marius: the supreme alpha of the lycans, a monster who carried a century of massacres on his back.
"Why us?" Verkut continued, walking in front of the soldiers. "Because Marius isn't just a problem for the creatures of the night. He's a problem for humanity. His activity is out of control, and covering it up is becoming increasingly difficult. If this continues, it's only a matter of time before the public discovers the truth. And when that happens… it will be the end of civilization as we know it."
He stopped and looked at them one by one.
"The objective is clear: neutralize Marius and eliminate all evidence of his existence. It won't be easy. Marius is not just any lycan. He is the alpha of alphas. But we're not here because it's easy. We're here because no one else can do it."
The screens showed satellite images of a remote forest. A group of lycans could be seen moving along a highway.
"Bravo Team will be in charge of cleanup. Alpha, you will be on the front line. Your mission is to hunt Marius. Dead or alive. We have authorization to operate without restrictions. No one will ask questions if we use lethal force."
One of the soldiers raised his hand.
"Will we have reinforcements or air support?"
"Negative," Verkut replied with icy firmness. "This operation depends solely on us. Do not underestimate Marius or his pack. If anyone falters, everyone dies."
The soldiers nodded, tense, determined.
"Prepare yourselves. You have twenty minutes to gear up. Alpha is going to the front line. Tonight, we will change the course of this silent war."
The soldiers stood up immediately, gripping their weapons and adjusting their vests. The hunt had begun.
Preparation Area — Alpha Team, Spectral-Corp
In the preparation room, the members of Alpha Team reviewed their arsenal. Amidst helmets, magazines, and sniper rifles, a disciplined silence reigned. Some exchanged brief words; others adjusted their comms. And there, standing out among them all, was Enid Drakewood.
With her hair pulled back and her face partially hidden under her tactical helmet's visor, Enid moved with the confidence of someone who had already survived too many missions. Yet, as she loaded her rifle and adjusted her bulletproof vest, her mind wandered far from the room.
Marius…
She pressed her lips together, remembering the real reason she was there.
Everyone thinks this is just another cleanup operation. But I have other plans.
As she checked a silver knife on her belt, her thoughts sharpened. She wasn't there out of blind loyalty to Spectral-Corp. Nor out of some heroic sense of protecting humanity. She was there for something more important: a unique opportunity.
A blood sample… that's all I need. One drop of Marius's blood could change everything.
The blood of the supreme alpha was a genetic treasure. Pure power. A blend of strength, regeneration, and speed that surpassed any known creature.
Enid discreetly opened a secret compartment in her backpack and checked a small empty vial, prepared to store the sample.
If I get this blood… it won't just be a weapon against them. It will be a weapon for me. My insurance. My advantage.
She knew that neither Spectral-Corp nor the government were trustworthy. Both wanted to control the creatures, not eradicate them. And neither hesitated to sacrifice their own personnel.
I'm not going to be a pawn in this game. Not again.
She closed the compartment and checked the ammunition in her customized Glock. She was the only one who knew exactly what she wanted from this mission.
"Drakewood, hurry up!" a soldier shouted from the other end of the room. "We leave in five minutes."
Enid nodded silently, adjusted her helmet, and picked up her rifle. But before moving forward, one final thought crossed her mind, sharp and dangerous.
*Let them keep believing I'm just another soldier… When this is over, Marius won't be the only one they fear.*
With a firm step, she joined the assembly point. The hunt was about to begin. For Spectral-Corp, it was a critical operation.
