I never knew he would do this to me, now I'm pregnant

Alone and Pregnant in a Strange World

Chapter 5:
Awakening in a sterile hospital bed, my eyes fluttered open, and I immediately felt the throbbing pain in my head. An attempt to sit up proved futile as a surge of agony shot through my body, eliciting a groan of anguish. The swift arrival of a nurse by my side urged me to recline back, her voice carrying a soothing reassurance.
"Please, try not to move too much. You were found unconscious on the street and brought here for treatment," the nurse's words washed over me, bringing a sense of reality to my disoriented state.
Shock rippled through me as I absorbed the information. I couldn't believe I had collapsed on my very first day in the human world. The weight of weakness and vulnerability bore down on me, and the desire to retreat into my wolf form overwhelmed my thoughts.
Tears welled up, distorting my vision as I whispered in a trembling voice, "What have I done?
I shouldn't have left Pack Eron. I miss my old life."
The nurse's gentle hand found its place on my shoulder, offering a modicum of solace amidst my despair. "It's alright, dear. Just rest and allow yourself to recover."
With a slow nod, I acknowledged her words, but a profound realization settled within me. Everything had changed irreversibly. I had severed ties with everything I had known and cherished. Alone in this unfamiliar world, devoid of friends and family, I felt the weight of my choices.
Closing my eyes, tears cascading down my cheeks, I made a silent vow that resonated deep within my being. I would forge ahead, determined to survive in this foreign realm, no matter the hardships that lay ahead.
Consciousness returned, and I found myself still in the sterile hospital room. The throbbing pain in my head intensified as I attempted to sit up, eliciting a wince of discomfort. A gentle voice reached my ears, urging caution. "Take it easy, young lady,"
I turned my head to see an elder man seated next to me. His eyes exuded kindness and compassion despite his weariness.
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice raspy and weak.
A warm smile graced his face. "I'm Chief Daniel, the chief of police in this town. You were found unconscious on the street, and someone called for an ambulance to bring you here." Confusion clouded my mind as I struggled to recall the events leading to my hospitalization. "I... I don't remember much," I admitted, anxiety creeping in.
"It's alright," Chief Daniel reassured me. "The doctors say you have a concussion, but with some rest, you should fully recover. Do you have any family or friends we can contact?"

Reluctance washed over me, not wanting to burden anyone with my troubles. "No, I don't," I replied quietly.
A faint furrow appeared on Chief Daniel's brow, sensing my hesitation. "Well, you're not alone anymore," he stated firmly. "You're under my protection now, and I won't let anything happen to you. Is there anything you need? Water, food, or perhaps a phone to reach out to someone?"
Emotions welled up within me, moved by his genuine kindness. "Thank you," I murmured, tears welling up in my eyes. "I... I don't know what to do now. I have nowhere to go." Chief Daniel placed a comforting hand on mine. "Don't worry, we'll figure it out together," he reassured me. "You're safe here."
As Chief Daniel asked me routine questions about my health and medical history, a sense of unease lingered. Humans were unfamiliar territory, and I wasn't sure how much I could trust this man. Yet, his calm and gentle demeanor eroded my defenses. I sensed his sincere care for my well-being, realizing he posed no threat.
Nodding, I wiped away my tears. "I understand. But I need to leave the hospital. There are things I must attend to," I asserted, determined to regain my footing.
Chief Daniel regarded me with concern. "Maya, you can't just leave. You're pregnant, and you need to take care of yourself and your baby."
Shock seized me, fear cascading like a tidal wave. I hadn't expected this turn of events, and the thought of raising a child alone was overwhelming.
"I-I'm pregnant?" I stammered, my voice choked with emotions.
Chief Daniel gazed at me sympathetically. "I'm sorry to break this news, Maya, but you're expecting a child. Do you know who the father is?" he inquired, hoping for some pertinent information.
Tears welled up in my eyes. "Yes, but he abandoned us. He simply walked away, choosing another woman over us," I whispered, my voice laden with a mixture of sorrow and bitterness. I poured my heart out to Chief Daniel, recounting the depths of my struggles. His eyes reflected genuine empathy as he absorbed every word. Instead of dismissing my pain, he offered solace and reassurance, assuring me I wasn't alone in this daunting journey. His commitment to helping me resonated deeply.
"Maya, you don't have to share anything you're not comfortable with," he said, acknowledging the weight of my story.
Gratitude overwhelmed me, and tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to find the right words. "Daniel, thank you. I can't express how grateful I am for your kindness."
A gentle smile graced his face as he reached out, his touch enveloping my hand. "Your family now, Maya. And family takes care of each other."
His declaration caught me off guard, leaving me speechless. "Family?" I whispered, my voice quivering with emotion.
"Yes, Maya. I want to adopt you," he affirmed. "You don't have to face the world alone anymore. You deserve the love and care of a father."
Tears streamed down my face, disbelief mingling with overwhelming gratitude. "Chief, are you serious? You'd take me in as your own?"
He nodded, his grip on my hand strengthening. "Absolutely, my dear. You've endured so much, and it's time for a fresh start. With me, you'll have a new family."

Gratitude welled up within me, rendering me momentarily speechless. "Thank you, Chief. I don't know how I can ever repay your kindness."
His response was swift, his tone warm. "You don't need to repay me, Maya. All I ask is that you take care of yourself and your baby. I'll handle the rest."
With a renewed sense of hope, I made a heartfelt promise. "I promise, Chief. And regarding my boyfriend... I don't want you to face trouble because of him."
A serious expression crossed his face as he assured me, "Don't worry about him, Maya. I'll ensure he faces the consequences of his actions."
The realization that my wish for a family might finally come true overwhelmed me. "Thank you, Chief. I would be honored to be your daughter."
Daniel enveloped me in a warm embrace, the strength of his hold conveying a sense of security I had never known. "Welcome to the family, Maya."
A profound sense of disbelief persisted within me. To have someone care for me as Daniel did was a foreign concept, one that tugged at my heartstrings. "But why are you doing this for me? I'm just a stranger."
He met my gaze, his eyes filled with unwavering sincerity. "Because you remind me of my daughter, who lives in another city. I miss her dearly, and I want to provide the same love and care for you as I would for her."
A lump formed in my throat, and my voice trembled with emotion. "Thank you, Chief. Being part of a family is something I've always longed for. I would be honored to be a part of yours." As he held my hand, Daniel solidified our agreement. "Then it's settled. Once you're discharged from the hospital, you'll come live with me. You and your child will have a home, and I'll be there to support you every step of the way."
Unable to contain my overwhelming gratitude, tears cascaded down my cheeks. I embraced him tightly, feeling a genuine sense of belonging. "Thank you, Chief Daniel. I won't let you down."
"I know you won't," he replied, patting my back. "You're a strong girl, Maya. You'll get through this, and I'll be there to help you every step of the way."
Chief Daniel paid all of my medical bills and planned for me to have a comfortable stay in the hospital. He left the room, promising to return soon
