Since that day Reese told Tim about her feelings, Tim started exerting more effort that it was evident to the people around them that he was pursuing her. However, she already made up her mind that no matter how much he tried, she'd still reject him because that was the right thing to do.
It's better for them to get hurt as early as possible so that the damage wouldn't be that worse. She couldn't take the risk because there was no point in taking such risk. She didn't want to fight a battle that she was about to lose no matter how hard she fought, but Tim was different. He wouldn't give her what she wanted. He was willing to do everything just to change her mind.
"I don't want to eat this," she coldly said as she pushed away the salad that Tim bought for her.
Celine looked at her with sad eyes while Luke looked away from them. She knew that she was being a brat and her friends were worried but she needed to be firm in her resolve. She needed to win against Tim's perseverance.
"What do you want then?" Tim asked.
"I want you to stop doing this kind of thing. I told you already, no matter what you do, I still won't accept you."
Tim sighed and forced a smile which brought a pang in her chest. Every time she hurt Tim, the pain in her chest would arise and she hated it. She hated it every time she needed to hurt the both of them when they were both hurting already. If Tim would just stop his nonsense, then maybe it would be easier for the both of them.
"I'm sorry, Reese. That's the only wish I couldn't grant you."
She shook her head in disappointment as she hang her bag on her right shoulder. "I need to go, I'll see you guys later."
She walked out of the cafeteria and decided to go to the library. Lately, she had been too preoccupied and she was somewhat worried that it would affect her class standing. She didn't want to be irresponsible just because she had been struggling with personal matters of the heart.
She took the spot at the corner of the room and brought out her notes so that she could drown herself with other things because she didn't want to remember Tim's painful expression when she rejected him a while ago.
"It's been a while since I last saw you here." Tyler sat in front of her and smiled.
It's been a few months since she realized that she was over Tyler but it felt like an ancient story for her. Tyler seemed to grow taller and his body became more toned. He was more handsome compared to the last time she saw him.
"Hey, Ty. How are you doing?" She greeted him with a smile.
"Looks like my little Reese is back." Tyler said in glee.
"I can't be in love with you forever, you know?" She responded.
Talking about such things with Tyler didn't seem to be awkward now that she was over him. Somehow, she felt happy that they were back to the way they were before.
"So why are you alone? Where's your suitor?" Tyler asked while looking around.
"Suitor? Who are you referring to?"
"Timothy Carlos? He was the hot topic since last week." Tyler said with a shrug. "Everyone talks about how he got the guts to pursue you despite being a commoner. There were so many bad rumors about him lately so I was a bit worried for you."
She suddenly felt mad after hearing that bad rumors were directed at Tim when it was her who was behaving badly towards the guy.
"Ty, do you also think that Tim wants me because of what I have?" She asked him.
"Well, that's how everyone sees it." Tyler smirked so she glared at him. "Do you want to know my thoughts about it?"
"That's the reason why I asked you," she said as she rested her chin on the back of her hand.
"I think Tim's feelings for you were genuine. Ever since that day that you two became close, I already notice that the way he looks at you is different. That s why I was pushing you to him despite knowing that it was me whom you like that time."
She smiled when she heard his answer. This was one of the reason why she admired this guy. He was always rational and fair. He wouldn't allow other's views and opinions cloud his.
"It seemed like you heard the answer that you wanted to hear, Reese."
"Yes. I'm happy that you can see his sincerity."
"Let me give you a piece of advice, sweetheart." Tyler held her hands. "You should do what makes you happy. Your life is already secured and you can be successful even after choosing your happiness."
She rolled her eyes. "Says the man who got engaged to the girl whom his parents chose for him."
Tyler laughed at her remark. "To be honest, I was never forced to get engaged with my fiancé. In fact, it was me who chose her."
"Really?" This was the first time that she heard about it. She never thought that Tyler was initially in love with Lovellé even before their engagement.
Tyler flicked her forehead. "That's why I'm telling you this. Do what makes you happy. Even if it's hard, it's all going to be worth it."
Tyler's words echoed in her head the whole time she was studying. She had her doubts whether that advice was helpful to her or not. She didn't want to be reckless and impulsive but somewhere deep in her heart, there was a voice that tells her to go and chase happiness.
