Eight hundred years ago, a mysterious object fell from the sky and released nine ancestral spirits, giving rise to nine clans marked by its power. Since then, every hundred years the Moon chooses a human to become Arvaken, the one in charge of returning the spirits to the cosmos and restoring balance. Seven were chosen before him, but none managed to complete the mission. Now, Kiron has been chosen as the eighth Arvaken and carries two brands that should never have coexisted. As the clans fight to survive Ragnar's advance, Kiron must face enemies, powers he barely understands, and a destiny he never asked for.
