A survey for the next updates
Hi everyone:
I had been receiving comments about my infrequent updates on my book, Devata of the Silver Lance(DOTS). As you all know I am updating the book on a monthly basis since I said before I am not a fulltime writer and I need to manage everything else in life. and that I always want to publish a complete chapter. Though it is my dream to become a fulltime writer, someday.
That is why I am thinking of releasing the next chapter in parts.
To do this I need you to answer this important question:
How long should I update my work?
(a) Weekly
(b) Every three days
(c) Daily
Let me know what you all think by commenting below and
Please like, follow and add my book to your library and in doing so you are helping me come closer to fulfilling my dreams.
Thank you all for your support. I am always grateful to you all for taking the time to read my humble work.
I wish the same for you. May your dreams also come true.
Your Friend and Author,
The Coldphoenix

Log inUnfortunately, and this is just a harsh truth, unless you're already an established writer (on or off the site), infrequent/lengthy stretches between updates isn't gonna fly. None of us are really full time writers here, technically, because we're not being paid to upload. This is more for exposure purposes. Still, exposure needs to be done consistently so readers don't give up or walk away. You're lucky as your current readers pointed this problem out, meaning they care about your work.
A standard book, for sake of argument, has roughly 30 chapters. Releasing 1 per month is asking people to wait 2 1/2 years for an entire book. That's too much for a new writer to ask from readers.
I'd say an every day or every other day update of roughly 15000 characters (or roughly 2500 words) is long enough to maintain interest for the reader but short enough for the author to keep up with. A lot of authors, myself included, don't even publish at the same rate the story is being written to avoid these kinds of scenarios. I often keep my book at least 5 chapters ahead of where I am on the site so I can afford that break when I need it. If that means taking a hiatus between projects, so be it.
Thank you for your honest advice and insights. Its really helpful.
