“She is my mate, so I don’t see how she cannot be mine,” I said, turning to her father.

Alpha Richard and everyone else froze in the room, as I said this. Raya looked at her father too, her eyes almost begging him to do something. I wasn’t sure why she was running from me. Was she really that scared of me? I mean, people knew barely anything about me. How could she be so afraid? And yet I could hear her heart pounding in her chest, afraid of what was going to happen now. I calmly started to run my hand slowly up and down her back, trying to soothe her a little, but it didn’t seem to do much. She clearly wanted to be far away from me, but I was not going to allow that to happen. Not now that I had her in my arms.

“No …” her father said.

“Yes,” I said. “Therefore, she is mine now.”

Her father looked away, knowing there wasn’t much he could do, since the rules clearly said she belonged to me now.

“Dad …” she called out lowly.

“And now that I have her, we will leave,” I said.

But before I got a chance to take a step away, her father grabbed my arm, his hard green eyes meeting mine.

“You want her? Then you will help us.”

“Excuse me?” I said.
