Sneak-a-peak - G E and W L chapter 38

“You’ll be able to move soon.”

A monotonous deep voice said and Natalia felt a shiver run down her spine. She’d even recognize this voice in her sleep.

‘Adrian.’ She thought.

Natalia moved her head in the direction of his voice, her heart stubbornly racing with each beat, but she couldn’t see anyone there. The wooden box-like room she was in wasn’t so huge that she wouldn’t be able to see anyone within its walls, so where was he?

“You look good in red,” Adrian said mockingly and his voice sounded so near, almost an arm’s length away from the foot end of the bed, but there wasn’t anyone standing there. Natalia tried to move as she struggled to locate the source of his voice.

“Where are you?” Natalia said, her throat felt dry and speaking was painful.

“You should rest more before we start,” Adrian said without really answering her question.

“Start what?” Natalia said as she moved her hands towards her teeth in an attempt to untie the ribbon tied around her wrists. The knot wasn’t coming off. Now that her limbs were movable, only her trunk was frozen on the spot.

“Do you understand what is going to happen next?”Adrian’s voice echoed around her.

And Natalia was no longer sure whether her heart was beating violently inside her ribs out of love for him or in fear of her current situation.

“Yes, I’m not stupid Adrian,” Natalia said quite irritated with the fact that he was playing hide and seek with her. She wanted him to end things fast.

“Care to elaborate then.” Adrian said cheekily, “what will my next move be, Natalia?”

Natalia couldn’t help, but notice the sense of humor in his voice. The way he said her name always caught her off guard.  She was supposed to feel terrified, but she was having mixed feelings instead.

“You will be choking my throat and killing me,” Natalia said in a whisper. ‘Just the way you killed that woman in the woods,’ she added inside her head. She waited for Adrian to confirm her mode of death. After all, he’d kill anyone for the stone bracelet. That’s the whole reason she was tied to the bed with her wrists immobilized with a creepy red ribbon.

There was an odd silence for some time before the entire cabin erupted in growling like laughter. His laugh was a low-pitched rumbling sound mixed with occasional high-pitched notes and Natalia realized that she didn’t quite like his laugh.

“Well,” Adrian said in between his bouts of laughter, “you’re not entirely wrong”.
