Welcome to her Channel | Mae Parsons

“Hello and welcome to my channel! My name is Mae Parsons and you’re watching booktube!”

Mae Parsons introduced herself to the camera that set up on a tripod. She put down the book she was holding in-between her name and the rest of the sentence she was speaking; she showed a bright smile. She put the book down to the white rolling cart next to her that was filled with other books of all sorts of titles.

“Today, I will be telling you about me, myself, and I and what to expect on this channel.”

She reached for a different book title that was on the rolling cart and held it up next to her somewhat close to her face. “As you can probably tell from the background and what’s in my hand, I am both an avid reader and lover of all things literature.”

The background she was referring to, was her giant bookshelf filled with books organized in a rainbow. There were also pop figures of fictional characters scattered about on the shelves. It was a nice setting to read in, Mae Parsons often found herself reading in her mini library when she wasn’t editing videos in her office.

Mae Parsons put the book back on the rolling cart and picked up a piece of paper that was folded up neatly. She held it in her hand and gestured around the room. “That’s enough of the obvious facts about me. I took questions from Twitter on my hashtag askMaeParsons and you guys came up with some pretty amazing questions!”

She unfolded the paper. “Alright, let’s get started. The first question comes from Kimberly Hartfield who asks.” She paused, letting out a giggle. “Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?”

Mae Parsons bit the inside of her cheek then shook her head. “No, I do not. Single and ready to mingle with fictional characters that are way out of my league. Next question comes from David Salvatore who asks, what is your favorite thing about doing YouTube?”

She pretended she was in thought with a playful fist to her chin and tilted her head a bit. “Hm, I’d have to say my favorite thing about doing YouTube is that I get to collaborate with multiple people from the booktube community and learning more about the community as I continue my journey on here.”

She took in a breath then let out a laugh. “Okay, this next one is too similar to the first question. Hannah June asks, have you ever had a crush on someone you’ve collaborated with?”

Shaking her head, her cheeks flushed. “I have had a crush on everyone that I collab with. Just kidding! Nope, never had a crush on anyone. I do read your comments guys, I am aware you ship me with the infamous Harrison Baker, not going to happen. Sorry Harrison if you’re watching!”

Mae Parsons continued to go down the list of questions. “I love this next question! Leah Mane asks, what do you want to do in life (besides YouTube)? Honestly, I’ve always dreamed of being an author. Being able to write and create stories that inspire people would make my life complete.”

Mae Parsons continued going down the list. Some people asked her about her YouTube journey, and how she started. She actually started off as an Instagram account with the username Sunkissedbooks where she posted the books she would read, some book reviews here and there, and instantly got popular. By the end of her first month on Instagram she had gotten over five hundred followers. Lots of her comments mentioned that she should start a YouTube channel to spread her well known knowledge on fiction books to a larger audience. She was hesitant at first, but soon became accustomed to the idea of being on Youtube.

“Onto the next question! Ophelia Halewood asks, what are your pronouns? Excellent question! My pronouns are she and her as I identify as female. I would also like to take the time to say that anyone and everyone is welcomed to my channel!”

She opened her arms wide and smiled brightly. “This is a virtual hug from me to you, the viewers!”

The next few questions were simple ones; her favorite color, food, whether she preferred day or night, and her greatest fear about doing YouTube. Grey, sushi, night, and that one day she’ll end up in a big scandal. She did not go into details about the last question due to her becoming aware that she might be calling out other YouTubers for getting into recent scandals. Another fear of hers that correlate to the scandals was being canceled; being aware of all the older YouTubers that were getting canceled over old videos they’ve done years ago. It made her relieved that she started making her videos in the last year rather than years ago when she was younger and naïve.

So far, in her YouTube career, she had no scandals, no cancellations, nothing bad, yet. There always that thought in the back of her mind that one day she would mess up somehow, someway, and that made her terrified. However, there were plenty of other things she was known for besides her love of literature.

Mae Parsons was known for being shipped with everyone she collaborates with. Whether it be a young man, woman, or non-binary person, she was shipped with them. The most known person she was shipped with was Harrison Baker, another YouTuber that was a part of the BookTube community. The two had very similar morals and both wanted to grow in the community, but if Mae Parsons was being honest with herself, she couldn’t see herself with Harrison Baker.

Shaking her head, she averted her eyes away from the camera for a moment. “And that’s all I will be saying about that subject.”

She took in a quick breath in and out and gave one last big smile at the camera. “Thank you all for your questions! Time to tell you what you can expect from my channel and I.”
