Big News!!! New Contest on Litnet!
And the BIG NEWS is...
We are hosting a Short Story Contest on Booknet!!!
When we had first created Booknet Authors our Moderators immediate wanted to put together a contest for THE WRITERS CLUB. So discussion opened up as to how we might accomplish this. Surprise, surprise, when we mentioned this to Booknet… they came back to us saying…
‘We’ll even do you one better, we’ll open the contest up to the entire English Language Version of Booknet, instead of just club members and we will even offer to promote the winner’s story across our social media.’
So we were like…
Needless to say, we were both shocked and thrilled to have such an opportunity. So it was back to the drawing board as to what our theme would be. We wanted to pick a theme that could possibly be adapted to fit any genre so everyone could join in.
So we chose ONCE UPON A TIME…
We picked this day to launch our contest because ANNA R CASE discovered a really cool connection to Joseph Jacobs.
WHO IS JOSEPH JACOBS?
Glad you asked.
Joseph Jacobs was born 29 August 1854, he was an Australian folklorist, translator, literary critic, social scientist, historian and writer of English literature who became a notable collector and publisher of English folklore.
His work went on to popularize some of the world's best-known versions of English fairy tales including "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Goldilocks and the three bears", "The Three Little Pigs", "Jack the Giant Killer" and "The History of Tom Thumb". He published his English fairy tale collections: English Fairy Tales in 1890 and More English Fairy Tales in 1893 but also went on after and in between both books to publish fairy tales collected from continental Europe as well as Jewish, Celtic and Indian fairytales which made him one of the most popular writers of fairytales for the English language. So what better day than his birthday to get our contest started.
We, however, are not looking the same old stories… we want you to make it new by giving life to a brand new tale or a retelling of an old story.
GET CREATIVE. Zombie princess looking for her one true love. A fairy tale told from the villain's POV. A new tale worthy of the Brother's Grimm. A retelling of Folklore from your home country. A tale set in modern-day and times. Think outside the box and get writing!!!
All contest rules and how to participate are located under the CONTEST button at the top of the page.
I hope to list out for you a blog of the FAQ's that have arisen as a result of the contest. So, keep an eye out for that.
We hope you'll join us for the fun of participating and enter for your chance to win. We look forward to reading your submissions.
