Author's helping authors - What's your take?

As a new writer/author, I often wished a more experienced writer or editor would look at my work and provide feedback, in both a constructive and kind way line by line. Not just 'oh you're doing this here.' 

All too often, new writers are told 'show don't tell,' sometimes they don't even realize they're doing it. I know I didn't, and even still it's something I struggle with a lot. 

What do you struggle with, what are your go-to learning resources to attack the writing nits you've picked up?
