Houston in September - More Chapter Updates!
Here's the link, in case you're like me and don't want to read the bottom stuff.
Houston in September - Updates - Jan 6, 2021
It's been a bit since I chatted about some of the refinements I'm making to the chapters. One of the things that I received as far as feedback from some of the beta readers I had looking at my work was "I don't know how this relates to that."
I also realized I was doing some head hopping. It was unclear who was speaking, so I tried to fix that and I'm making an attempt to learn how to discern between head hopping and ominiscient point of view.
I swear I thought my grasp of the English language was good, until I started reading some of the things writers had written about that. Then there were the head slappers too. "His eyes looked out on to the road...um his eyes were doing WHAT now?"
Holy feck, I don't know how to write a solid sentence. Back to the drawing board I go.
As well Good Lord, It's a veritable word smorgasboard," but my first page is as dry as a popcorn fart in the Nevada desert.
Yet, the story seems to settle out into something decent once you get past that first painful trod through it gets sort of better. I promise.
I've been going through the work, reading it to myself as well. Often in spoken word you pick up on some of the more unnatural turns of phrase.
Since I'm an avid reader, I know what good writing looks like, and I don't think mine is there just yet. I know it will continue to get better as I beat on my craft, day in day out. I just don't want to get stuck doing the same thing over and over and nothing improves (which I kind of feel like I've been doing).
Anyhow, that's it for now.
Hope your 2021 is going as word smashingtacular as mine is!
Cheers,
S.
