Achieving Commercial Account Status
HELLO, FELLOW WRITERS!
Okay, I've been requested to shed some light on how to achieve a commercial account as I am the first to have achieved this goal on the US version of Litnet. There are plenty of writers who are earning money for their works in the Spanish and Russian versions, just so you know this really does work.
For some of you, this may feel like an impossible task but there are two ways to get followers,
FIRST - AUTHORS FOLLOWING
One is following the authors that read your books or that follow you.
Go to Followers in your profile list and look through those that are following you. If they have a number next to the book icon they are a fellow author who is following you so be a friend and follow them back.
I have followed every author on my list that has followed me. I continually check my list as my followers grow to be certain I follow back any new authors who have decided to follow me too.
Check out your readers... when readers comment click on their profiles and if they are authors follow them and hopefully, since you know they already like your work, they will follow you back.
SECOND - READERS FOLLOWING
If they don't have a number next to the book icon. Congratulations you've won yourself a reader. Authors are not allowed to follow readers so the only way to attain them is to write a good story that would attract them to your profile.
Also, try posting a gentle reminder in the comments of your book. When you see many are commenting... thanking them for the votes and comments that you have received. Stating don't forget if you are enjoying the story to follow, is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, without being rude.
80 REGULAR READERS
I'm not surprised some of you may be confused as to what this means exactly. I was too until I asked an editor here at Litnet for an explanation. Here is what I was told:
The Regular Readers indicator (RR) was created to understand how many readers actively read books of an author. We keep the exact algorithm in secret because we want to protect it from cheating. It is precise and effective.
So basically what that means is you have to write books that will attract returning readers.
Ways to do this:
1. Great Cover- You want to create a cover that will grab a reader's attention. This is the calling card for your book, it's the reader's first impression they get as to what kind of writer you are and what kind of stories you write. This includes coming up with a catchy title.
2. Interesting Blurb- The description of your book has to be exciting, enticing, and engaging. You have a limited amount of characters to tell what your story is about and why the reader should read it. So take extreme care when writing it. Be exact with your words to give your book the best description you can give.
3. Create Amazing Stories- Writing stories can be hard but if you write what you love and love to read, you will find the task far less daunting and you will be able to create the stories that are worth readers reading. This is done through good character development, thought out plots, interesting settings, and conflict with a satisfying resolution.
4. Edit Your Work - Another way and I know this isn't always easy as it is very time-consuming but try to post your best work, your most polished work. No work is going to be error-free. That's why editors exist, but you can at the very least proofreader your own work before posting it to be certain you are posting the best version of your work that you have. Showing love for your craft and your story immediately translates to your readers and they will show their appreciation by reading, liking, rewarding, and following you as an author.
5. Update Regularly- If you're trying to get the RR algorithm working for you, you need to keep up with regular updates. That doesn't necessarily mean you've got to post a chapter every day but trying to keep to a regular posting schedule not only does it ensure return readers, but also regular updates of a story can make it appear in the widgets on Litnet more often, giving your book more exposure so it can be found and read by new and active readers.
6. Be A Participant - Be active on Litnet ...
- Use the blog feature to let your readers know what you are working on
- Reply to the comments received on your stories
- Reach out to readers to thank them on their profiles for reading.
- Reward the authors that you really enjoy
- Be sure to Like stories and Follow authors
- Get involved in social media Litnet is on FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM, and YOUTUBE. Check them out like, comment, share, and follow.
- Participate in contests
WRITE A BOOK WITH 240,000 CHARACTERS
Just to give you an idea 240,000 characters translates to about 70,000 words. (I had originally used a character count converter to estimate the words but thanks to @Vijay Kerji it has been decided that the converter count of 120,000 words is incorrect, which makes the count far more attainable.)
Now, this does have to be one book. This does not work in combination with other books you have written.
So if you write several short stories you may want to post them as one collection to reach this mark. If you write novellas you may have to branch out to create at least one complete novel to get to 240,000 characters.
Best way to complete this goal is to keep on writing and finish that story.
------------
So this is how you reach the 3 markers needed to get a commercial account. Once you've reached them you can contact Litnet through the Commerical Account Button and ask to be approved for an account. One thing though you may want to make sure before you do this that you have something ready to sell.
There are two ways to sell your book:
COMPLETE where you sell a story that is already completely finished like I have with From the Ashes or as ONGOING this where you sell your book while you are writing it. To sell your book this way you will be required to keep up a regular posting schedule, so again be sure you have something you believe is sellable, and you can keep up with.
Hopefully, this has answered some of your questions. I will try and expand these ideas in future blogs for those of you who would like additional information. If you have questions please feel free to post them in the comments and I will try my best to answer them.
Thank you and best of luck in your career writing on Litnet,
Ruechari

Log inHello, which link should I copy to paste it to affiliate link for author referral, thank you :)
Ruechari, Oh ok, thank you :)
Beside the eye icon that indicates the number of viewers you have there is also = this icon with numbers what does it mean. Thank you for your help.
Gonefa, There is the eye which tells you how many people have viewed your book. The next Icon is a stack of books indicating how many people have put your book in their library, and the last icon is a speech bubble showing the number of comments on that story.
Hello, I'm confused about the 80 regular readers. Are those the number of people who view your book, like the number of views
Ruechari, Okay, thank u so much
I have 130 regular readers, I have written a free book of over 240k characters, I have applied for an online signature and signed, and yet when it comes down to simply reading the final document and signing by inputting the code booknet should send to my number, I don't receive any code. I have checked my internet connection, I have also checked to make sure I put the correct mobile number, but I still don't get any code. Please I need help.
June Estee, Check your spam email to see if it is there. Otherwise, I would direct your question to customer support and they should be able to help you.
Please, how can I invite an author, so I can join the affiliate program?
June Estee, https://booknet.com/en/blogs/post/258297 The information on how to participate in the program can be found in this blog. If you have any further questions you can direct them to customer support and they should be able to help you.
Hey !
Its sweet of you to help us .
Thanks a lot .
Let say I was about to submit a book of mine but but i dont know how am I suppose to get copyright for it . can you please guide me coz its my first time writing a book
Ruechari,
Hello, I submitted my book in a contest and it says I have to fill a form in the commercial account but I cannot locate the commercial account button on the website. Do you have any idea what form they mean and how I can fill it?
Jade Wolf, You're welcome. And good luck to you.
Hi,
I have submitted my book in the contest and i've been asked to fill out the commercial account form. Can you please guide me as to where i can find it?
I have only one book published here..
Luckily I am able to achieve 170+ regular readers in 8 days.
Wait for 100 profile followers.
My first question:
I saw my friend achieved all this condition with 240k completed, but it is not showing green check mark on her profile..
Dies that mean we need to publish another book with another 240k characters?
Does she need to finish this book to get the approval?
What if I have only one book to published which is already completed all the conditions, but ongoing?
Booknet still allow me to fullfill the form??
Author Valerie, You will not be unable to sell until you have 100 followers, a book complete with 240,000 characters that is offered for free, and 80 regular readers.
Which means you can not sell this book. You can sell your next book if you reach 80 regular readers with it. If it does not reach 80 regular readers you may be given commercial status but you won't be able to sell because the book is not doing well enough to sell. The 80 regular readers is the algorithm used for Booknet to determine if a book will sell.
If your friend also only has one book available they would need to have a second book offered to sell. It is not until that book is marked complete will they get that final checkmark.
Thanks you so much for really guiding.
AJ Deavy, I'm happy to help.
OMG thank you for this blog!
chibicazielle, You're welcome!
I can not seem to attract even one follower here. It doesn't seem like anyone but me cares about my book. I want to make this my career. Nobody reaches out to me. Am I that unimportant. This is depressing.
Saratoga1776, Emma is correct the best way to start gaining readers is to be one and to start commenting and voting on those stories. Many authors understand your pain in this matter and are happy to return the favor. Also, we have an awesome Writing Community on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/booknetAuthors You can reach us at that link and go to GROUPS and ask to join our WRITERS CLUB. Here you can find a lot of like-minded authors who can give you a lot of support, advice and there are perks to belonging as some authors are chosen to be interviewed for the AUTHOR'S SPOTLIGHT and once a week we ask for books to be reviewed in our BOOK NOOK post. To find out how this works you may wish to check out.

Well, I was able to understand most of this things by myself, but your post helped me with a few questions. Thanks, Sis!!!!
Emma Swan, Happy to help.
I understood most of these, but I wasn't sure what a regular reader was (I somehow got one regular reader, though, which I'm grateful for). Thank you for the explanations, I think I get it now~
Celeste I., You're welcome. It is hard to get those 80 regular readers and when you reach commercial status you have to reach those 80 regular readers for any story you wish to sell or you can't sell it. The reason being is if it doesn't hit that mark it's not would not be profitable for you or Booknet to monetize your story.
Informative and helpful. Way to lead!
km tem, Got inspired by others who were looking for answers.
Thank you so much for your wonderful explanation. I wonder if you could tell me if the first book that is completed on litnet would be able to commercialised or is that only for the second book and the first one just sits there? Thanks again. You were the first person to follow my account when I joined up and I had no idea how this site worked. I love your support and I also love your work.
HypGothic, "You're welcome."
Thank you for the detailssss!!!
Ruechari, it definitely will!
WRITE A BOOK WITH 240,000 CHARACTERS
Just to give you an idea 240,000 characters translates to about 120,000 words.
I checked my full-length novel's (I Still Love You) word count and character count. They are around 70,000 and 3,50,000(without spaces) respectively. I wonder at your above statement which considers each word consisting of just two characters! I checked my novel count in Microsoft word document and I hope I'm still correct here
Vijay Kerji, Thank you that is most helpful in fact I will edit my blog to reflect that.
I think you pretty much covered the topics of commercial account. Thanks for your efforts and this is what I and perhaps others wanted to know. Thank you so much!
Vijay Kerji, You're welcome.
Wow this sure is eye opening, I have been wondering what that regular readers means but thanks to you, I have been enlightened, this sure is why I called you mother of Litnet, you are always here for your fellow authors and I appreciate that, thanks alot
Goodness, You're welcome. I'm happy to help.
This is very useful. Thank you so much for writing this blog post.
Roza Csergo, You're welcome Roza. I'm glad it was helpful.
