Jasper in January - 5 Chapters Updated

Jasper in January

Updates rolling in at a fairly regular pace. As I write this story, I jump between past and present events. Since the beginning starts with an event five years into the future, I'm writing about what went on during that time and how the main character ends up in the position she's in.

This book has been particularly hard to write because I don't know anything about murder investigations or police interviewing procedures. I don't want it to be a super heavy read. I want it to be a sweet surprise at the end because the book isn't heavy on mystery or intrigue, although there is some. It's a sweet romance and inspirational all at once. Kind of like how Houston in September (Not on booknet) is.

It may not be the easiest thing for my readers to follow, but I've included time and date stamps. I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could write this way.

I tend to write 3, 7,1. and then have to cobble the pieces together. I think this comes from not always having a solid outline. A definite black mark against being a type of writer who pants her stuff into existence.

As I learn more about who I am as a writer and start to develop my own voice, I find it easiest to start by taking one sentence. Write it down, then think of the next until I come to some sort of end. Then I go back and flesh out each sentence, so it moves the story forward to the finish.

For example:

Mary had a little lamb

Whose fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went

Her lamb was sure to go.

So, each of these sentences has a purpose of getting us to the end of the rhyme. Then you can go back and fill in the details like:

Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. The lamb was sickly, and it hobbled along. Oh, its fleece was indeed beautiful. In fact, it was even whiter than snow. It followed after Mary because she was the only one who responded to its cries. Mary on the other hand had the little lamb because she planned to make minced lamb pies.

Now we're envisioning this sweet lamb, and we're thinking Poor wee lamb. Forget you, Mary. So now you have your reader invested in finding out if Mary softens her black devil heart and lets our little lamb go.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts. Back to writing. Check out Jasper in January. Follow me, hit that like button.

Cheers,

S.
